Western Security Network (WSN)
Safeguarding Western Values Through Action-Oriented Security Policy
The Western Security Network (WSN) is an action tank dedicated to countering Islamist terrorism, antisemitism, and disinformation while advancing Western security interests and the expansion of the Abraham Accords. We leverage intelligence, policy advocacy, and strategic partnerships to deliver measurable results—deportations, prosecutions, and policy shifts—across the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East.
WSN was established by Khaled Hassan, an Egyptian-British national security and foreign policy researcher, in the wake of Hamas’ October 7th atrocities—a watershed moment that laid bare the escalating global threat of extremism and violence, to confront these dangers with unprecedented urgency.
Tangible Outcomes to Date
Groundbreaking Impact: Research Influences UK Visa Revocation of Hamas-Supporting Figure
My investigative work led to the UK Home Office’s landmark decision to revoke the visa of Moataz Matar, an exiled Egyptian TV presenter. Matar, a vocal Hamas supporter with over 4.7 million YouTube subscribers, sparked outrage by glorifying Hamas’ October 7 attack as the “happiest day of [his] life” and celebrating the murders of Israeli civilians. His case, flagged through my research, prompted the Home Office to act under a policy spearheaded by Suella Braverman and Robert Jenrick, barring Matar from re-entering the UK. Then Immigration Minister Jenrick affirmed the government’s stance: “There can be zero tolerance for visitors who abuse the privilege of a visa and endorse evil terrorist acts.” This precedent-setting action underscores the critical role of rigorous analysis in combating extremism and shaping national security priorities.
Research-Driven Accountability: Egyptian Academic Investigated and Dismissed After Antisemitism and Extremism Exposé
My groundbreaking investigation led to the dismissal of Dr. Taqadum Al-Khatib, a Germany-based Egyptian academic, from Berlin’s Freie Universität following his explicit support for Hamas and antisemitic rhetoric.
Al-Khatib, whose YouTube videos and social media posts openly endorsed Hamas’ violent agenda, faced swift consequences after my research triggered a German police probe into his conduct. His public remarks included celebrating Hamas’ October 7 attacks and promoting conspiracy theories accusing Israel of “Nazi-like” behaviour.
Key outcomes of my work:
-
Institutional Action: Freie Universität Berlin terminated Al-Khatib’s affiliation following my exposé, which revealed his antisemitic YouTube content and tweets glorifying Hamas.
-
Police Investigation: German authorities launched inquiries into his inflammatory rhetoric, including posts claiming Zionists “use antisemitism to frighten people” and comparing counterterrorism efforts to “Nazism.”
-
Academic Accountability: The case underscores the critical role of research in challenging institutions to uphold ethical standards, particularly when extremism infiltrates scholarly spaces.
Exposing BBC Bias in Israel-Hamas War Coverage
As one of the ten main contributors to Trevor Asserson’s 200-page report on systemic anti-Israel bias at the BBC, my expertise in Arabic-language disinformation and extremist networks played a decisive role in uncovering BBC Arabic’s repeated breaches of impartiality and accuracy during the Israel-Hamas war.
My analysis of BBC Arabic’s output revealed a pattern of amplifying Hamas narratives while downplaying terrorism. For instance, BBC Arabic hosted Hamas-linked individuals and presented them as human rights activists, effectively serving as a platform for the group’s messaging.
Global Accountability: Research Triggers Asset Freeze of ICC Case Co-Leader Khaled Al Shouli
Strategic Counsel: Influencing U.S. Policy on Gaza Through Expert Advisory Role
Exposing Big Tech's Role in Amplifying Extremism and Terrorism
Shaping Public Opinion on Migration, Extremism and Radicalisation
Advocating for the Abraham Accords, Interfaith Dialogue and Co-Existence
Working with partners in France, my investigative work led to the asset freeze of Khaled Al Shouli, the Jordanian lawyer and co-leader of the International Criminal Court (ICC) case against Israel, after exposing his ties to Hamas, extremism and antisemitic incitement. Based in France, Al Shouli leveraged his legal credentials to weaponise international institutions against Israel while promoting inflammatory rhetoric.
My research revealed Al Shouli’s simultaneous leadership of the ICC case and his history of endorsing antisemitic conspiracy theories, including baseless accusations of Israeli “apartheid” and “genocide.”
Following my findings, French authorities froze Al Shouli’s assets under counterterrorism financing laws, citing his alignment with groups undermining regional stability.
Working with partners in the Middle East, Europe and the US, I offered counsel on the feasibility of President Trump's plan for Gaza.
By exposing how Big Tech served as a megaphone for terrorist propaganda, my findings sparked global scrutiny and accountability for Big Tech’s role in radicalisation.
In my latest Telegraph article, I uncover how smartphones and technology—once hailed as tools for global connection—are exacerbating societal divides, radicalising vulnerable populations, and undermining integration efforts. Drawing on years of research into digital extremism and disinformation, the article exposes how technology fuels polarisation, from algorithmic echo chambers to the weaponisation of social media by hostile actors.
My latest Jewish Chronicle article highlights Azerbaijan—a Muslim-majority nation and unwavering strategic partner to Israel—as a living blueprint for the Abraham Accords' untapped potential. By safeguarding one of the world’s oldest Jewish communities while countering Iranian aggression, Azerbaijan embodies the Accords’ core promise: security and coexistence forged through mutual respect.
Building on this model, I actively collaborate with policymakers and regional stakeholders to expand the Accords’ reach, championing efforts to transform diplomatic breakthroughs into lasting economic, cultural, and security alliances that redefine peace in the Middle East and beyond.
